If you search the internet for the Thai alphabet, you will see a chicken, this is กไก่
It’s pronounced gor gai (gore guy for English readers.)
ก is the first consonant in the Thai alphabet.
ไก่ means chicken.
ไ is a vowel sound, normally known as สระ ไ but we may show it as ไอ
The mark above ก (อ่) in ไก่ is a tone marker, known as ไม้เอก.
Click here for the next consonant kor kai (egg) – you can then click through each of the 44 Thai consonants in the same way.

You may have noticed that the conundrum is now over, the chicken came first, before the egg – at least in the Thai alphabet song!
